About Us

Our Founder, Principal & CEO, Sia Goutzas, established Maths Words not Squiggles (MWNS) in January 2003. Our centres provide quality Maths & English tuition for students ranging from Kindergarten through to Year 12.
Our main objective is to ensure our students build confidence, enjoy the learning process and feel comfortable with simply giving it a go.
We specialise in Private Lessons & Micro Groups, which consists of a maximum of 3 students. All of our Learning Centres provide a safe, friendly environment that allows us to focus on the individual needs of each of our students.

Enrolment, Attendance & Rescheduling

Students may choose to enrol for a:

  • Single Lesson
  • Term Enrolment
  • Ongoing Enrolment (calendar year)

Students are enrolled into a specific subject & lesson structure on a weekly basis. We look forward to seeing them each week at their regular day & time. If a student is unable to attend a particular lesson, you are welcome to action this through the Parent Portal, no later than 8pm the day before. Feel free to choose another lesson, within the next 6 days, or defer the lesson. Deferred lessons may be rescheduled within the same calendar year as long as the student is currently enrolled with us. Please keep in mind that lessons cancelled on the day cannot be rescheduled due to the short notice provided. Unfortunately, credits and refunds will not be issued for absences, with or without notice, unless required by law.

Enrolment Pack

MWNS Enrolment Packs include a Folder, Writing Book, Homework Sheet as well as a MWNS tote bag. If a student enrols for a Term or as an Ongoing Enrolment, they will also receive a Maths and/or English Workbook. Students should bring their MWNS Enrolment Pack to each lesson as well as any additional material they require assistance with.
An annual fee of $44 is charged per subject for the MWNS Enrolment Pack which also covers all additional material we provide.

Teachers

Our dedicated educators are scheduled to teach lessons on specific days throughout the term. In the event that a teacher is absent, we will make every effort to find a replacement teacher who will be fully prepared for your child’s lesson.
If, by chance, a replacement teacher cannot be assigned, we will inform you promptly, offering you the option to attend the lesson online or to reschedule the lesson to a more convenient time. If neither works, we can easily apply a credit to your account.
Should your child’s regular teacher be unable to continue working with us, we will notify you as soon as we can to discuss options. Rest assured, we provide detailed evaluations for each lesson, ensuring your child’s new educator will be well informed and ready to step in seamlessly.

Term Dates for 2025

Students are required to attend the full MWNS term independent of the school system they attend.

Term 1: Monday 3rd February – Saturday 12th April

Term 2: Monday 28th April – Saturday 5th July

Term 3: Monday 21st July – Sat 27th September

Term 4: Monday 13th October – Saturday 20th December

Tuition Fees

Primary: Kindy – Yr 6: Micro Group $62/hr | Individual $94/hr

Secondary: Yr 7 – Yr 10: Micro Group $66/hr | Individual $98/hr

Senior: Yr 11 – Yr 12: Micro Group $68/hr | Individual $98/hr

Payment Options

We accept Cash, Credit Card, Bank Transfers or Automatic Payment Schedule through Ezidebit. Ongoing Enrolments will need to be set up on an Automatic Payment Schedule which can be processed either Fortnightly or for Term.

Public Holidays

Our centres are closed on Public Holidays and no lessons are held. Fees are not charged for any lessons that fall on a Public Holiday.

Pupil Free Days

As Pupil Free Days do vary for different schools, lessons will still be conducted on these days so please refer to our term dates above to ensure your child does not miss any lessons.

Unwell Student

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home and allow them to log into their lesson through the Student Portal. Their regular teacher will be waiting for them online to ensure they don’t miss out. If a student arrives to our centre and is unwell, we will need to isolate them until they can safely travel home as we do not want anyone else becoming unwell. Unfortunately, no credits or reschedules will be issued for the missed lesson.

Holiday Courses

If your child is enrolled into one of our holiday courses, they are requested to attend all days of the course. If your child is unable to attend the course in person, they are welcome to join the course online via the Student Portal.
Please let us know if they will be joining remotely prior to the commencement of the course so we may coordinate their course material in advance. Unfortunately, credits and refunds will not be issued for missed days, with or without notice, unless required by law.

Pausing an Enrolment

Term Enrolment: Students are required to see out the full term and will not be able to pause their enrolment.
Ongoing Enrolment: Students are welcome to pause their enrolment with 14 days’ notice, not including the day of notice.
If you would like to Pause an Enrolment, please email us on admin@mwns.com.au as we do require written notice to action any changes. When you would like to recommence tuition, simply contact us and we will gladly check availability for you.
